Samuel was born in New Zealand before his family moved to Adelaide, Australia as a child. He started contemporary dance as a teenager and was a member of the first Australian Dance Theatre Youth Ensemble in 2013. He moved back to New Zealand to study full time at the New Zealand School of Dance, where he performed in works by Hofesh Shechter, Malia Johnston, and Thomas Bradley among others, before graduating in 2016.
In 2017, he was a part of William Forsythe’s One Flat Thing, Reproduced for Strut Dance. He then moved to Sweden to join Norrdans as an Apprentice for the 2017/2018 season, performing in works by Mari Carrasco, Jarek Cemerek, and Liza Tegel.
In 2018, he joined Punchdrunk’s Sleep No More Shanghai in China as a full-time performer. By 2019, he took on a swing role where learnt up to 7 roles in the show. During 2020, Samuel moved back to Adelaide where he worked with Australian Dance Theatre on Objekt and Lewis Major Projects on S/Words and Unfolding and Satori.
Samuel has also choreographed extensively across the world, creating works for Norrdans, New Zealand Fringe Festival, Dance Hub SA, and many of his own personal projects in China and Australia.
