Following on from The Beginning of Nature, North/South and The Circadian Cycle, Supernature is the culmination of Garry Stewart’s award-winning Nature Series, his choreographic investigation into the rhythms, cycles and movement of the natural world.
Supernature conjures an otherworldly place, where ADT’s phenomenal dancers play out Stewart’s awe-inspiring depiction of evolution and what a ‘post-human’ world might look like, exploring the unceasing and audacious creativity in nature.
From its first creative development in 2019 and the creation of Garry Stewart’s Colony, commissioned by AGSA for the 2020 Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art, the evolutionary process of getting Supernature from the mind of Garry Stewart to the stage for its world premiere at the Adelaide Festival in 2021 was long and interesting, spanning years and continents as well as a pandemic. Beyond its world premiere season, ADT is continuing the development of Supernature, and we invite you to be a part of this major new work.
