Tread (formerly the Australian Dance Theatre Youth Ensemble) was established in 2013 to expose a select group of young dancers to the company’s repertoire and training methodology and to foster the next generation of professional dancers.

Tread offers a three-term program of training and performance opportunities to motivated young dancers who are selected by audition. Tread members gain valuable experience and insight into the profession and are better equipped to follow dance as their chosen career.

Since its inception, the Tread has provided over 80 South Australian young dancers with intensive and specialised training and performance opportunities, supplementing their private dance school lessons. Previous members of Tread have gone on to train at some of the most respected vocational dance programs in Australia and New Zealand.

Tread artists train at ADT’s studios outside of school hours and are taught by ADT’s professional dancers and some of Australia’s leading dance practitioners, teachers and independent choreographers to develop and advance their dance technique and skills.

Participation in Tread provides essential, unmatched experience to aspiring professional dancers, with performance opportunities at upcoming Festivals and events. Past opportunities have included the Art Gallery of South Australia’s NEO Teen Takeover & START programs, the Closing Ceremony of Panpapanpalya Joint Dance Congress, Adelaide Fringe Parade, ADT’s annual Rough Draft as well as curtain raiser performances before ADT’s main stage seasons.
