ENGAGEMENT

Young artists dance at AGSA

INTRODUCTION

Australian Dance Theatre has a proud history of supporting dance education for all ages, providing opportunities from its studios, in schools and on tour for secondary and tertiary students, graduates and the public. The program connects schools, teachers and students to leading professionals in the dance industry through creative experiences that promote self-confidence, ingenuity and physical awareness while also engendering a deeper understanding of the world of dance and the arts.

Participating in dance provides creative, healthy, and stimulating experiences for young South Australians. A primary aim of the Learning Program is to provide meaningful arts and cultural experiences for children and young people, irrespective of their geographical location.

ADT is committed to significantly expanding the reach of its Learning Program as part of its strong community engagement focus. With specific attention to rural, developing and underprivileged areas, we aim to make dance more accessible to students.

Explore below the various opportunities within the Learning Program.

Tread artists at The Odeon

TREAD

Tread is Australian Dance Theatre’s young artist program giving a select group of dancers aged between 15-25 exposure to the company’s repertoire and training methodologies, aiming to foster the next generation of creative artists.

Tread offers a three-term program of training and performance opportunities to motivated young dancers who are selected by audition. Tread artists train at ADT’s home The Odeon (57A Queen St Norwood) and are led by ADT’s teaching artists, alumni and industry professionals to develop and advance their dance technique and skills.

GROUNDswell

GROUNDswell

GROUNDswell is Australian Dance Theatre’s (ADT’s) new choreographic development program, providing exceptional First Nations choreographers opportunity to further their practise and develop new work on ADT’s Company Artists, within a company setting.

In its first edition, a multi-disciplinary and multi-dimensional First Nations Artist has been invited to work with ADT’s Company Artists on Kaurna Yerta , developing new ideas in the ADT studios. This will culminate in a work-in-development showing at ADT and an in-conversation between the artist and ADT’s Wiradjuri Artistic Director, Daniel Riley.

GROUNDswell is supported by Tarnanthi Festival of Contemporary Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Art and the Canny Quine Foundation.
