RISE | REST
A celebration of community grounded in the rhythms of Country
RISE | REST is an immersive outdoor choreographic cylce that marks a significant arc of time.
Beginning with RISE at the break of dawn and ending with REST at the arrival of the stars in the evening, these two works use natural light to paint the canvas of Country as dancers move in concert with the landscape to create a sense of communal pause and connection.
Bodies merge with nature as they connect to the ground upon which they tread. Meditative, reflective and full of heart, RISE | REST is a celebration of the renewal found in the rhythms of the world around us, guided by Traditional Owners of the lands in which we are invited to perform.
Co-created by ADT’s Artistic Director Daniel Riley and Associate Artistic Director Brianna Kell, RISE offers a powerful invitation to slow down, to reconnect to something older and deeper than all of us.

RISE was developed with assistance from First Year Bachelor of Fine Arts (Dance) students at Victorian College of the Arts in 2020.
RISE | REST is an outdoor work that is intrinsically connected Country. It is an invitation for audiences to slow down, and become grounded in the immense power, knowledge, and majesty of the country in which they tread.
Each presentation of RISE | REST will see ADT work in consultation and collaboration with local First Nations Elders and community representatives to ensure protocols are respected with safety and care.
We look forward to these collaborations, what they'll teach us and how they will inform RISE | REST as it continues to develop.
